I was going through a lot late 2016 / early 2017 and playing a ton of ZS helped me through those times. NoxNet had a pretty shitty community imo but some good people here and there. I'm not sure if it helped or exacerbated the already extremely low win rate for humans. My favorite addition was the soul sigils to defend, as it forced human players to play by the objectives of points needing to be defended. New boss zombies, flesh creepers, a ton of new weapons, and constant updates so the game never stayed exactly the same for more than a couple of weeks. there were so many additions and layers of subtle complexity I would've never expected to be added. Getting back into ZS in 2016 was so mind-blowing. I stopped playing just 4 months before the NoxNet servers closed down and the ZS source code was released to the public for everyone to do whatever they want with it.
I was a regular on the official ZS server, NoxiousNet, from 2011 to 2013, and from 2016 to 2017.
I got into ZS around 2011-ish, when barricading was already implemented and polished up. I was too young to experience classic ZS when your weapons upgraded after a certain amount of kills.
